A Sample Of My Artwork

Here is a sample of my drawings and paintings that I created during college and after graduation. With your support, I hope to create much more artwork and help others do the same through my teaching. Feel free to leave me a comment if you have any questions about my technique or career.

Mediums: pen and ink on paper, or that plus digital color in Photoshop painted over the fully rendered drawing.

My Drawing Technique: the drawings you see above in my Reddit post were executed first with a line drawing, then cross-hatching of lines for the rendering of shade. Throughout my shading I’ll occasionally use of a white ink pen to correct small ink blots and/or add highlights. The drawing right above this paragraph was done in a similar approach, but instead of cross-hatching I shaded my line drawing by switching between various hard and softness of pencils. I learned how to draw first from my imagination, second from comics, and most recently from the traditional academic art method of drawing a live model.

My Painting Technique: layering of transparent colors over the drawing, similar to the technique of illustrator Maxfield Parrish. My approach to color is a combination of my training as an oil painter and a photo retoucher.

My Picture-Making Approach: Norman Rockwell basically sums it up here in his book “Rockwell On Rockwell”. This is the approach to making pictures which I learned as an illustration student at SVA. That, plus the consistent study of the work of photographers, filmmakers and Renaissance painters in museums, books and online.

My Main Artistic Influences: Kadir Nelson, Maxfield Parrish, Michael Deas, Norman Rockwell, William Bouguereau, Jean Leon Gerome, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Mark Summers.
